Caprese Milano

The caprese salad is a light snack of tomatoes, cheese, basil and olive oil, which was named after the island of Capri (Italy). Thanks to the combination of red, white and green, which imitate the colours of the Italian flag, the caprese salad has become one of the national meals of Italy.

Ingredients for 6 servings

FITAKI Original 400 g

Italian white bread (ciabatta) 6 big slices

Tomatoes 600 g

Anchovy fillet in olive oil 125 g

Olive oil 4 tablespoons

Balsamic vinegar 2 tablespoons

Garlic 2 cloves

Salt, freshly ground pepper to taste

Fresh green basil 2 bunches

Preparation

  • 1 Drizzle the olive oil over the slices of white bread and toast them until they are light brown in an oven preheated to 200°С.
  • 2 Rinse the tomatoes and cut them into slices about 1 cm thick. Cut the FITAKI cheese into rectangular slices.
  • 3 Rub the toasted bread with the garlic.
  • 4 Arrange the tomatoes and the cheese on the bread and then distribute the anchovies evenly over them.
  • 5 In a separate bowl, mix the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper and lightly drizzle this sauce over the tomatoes and cheese. Rinse the basil, cut off the leaves and use them as a garnish.
Instead of an anchovy fillet in olive oil, you may use grilled prawns with garlic. Instead of Italian white bread, you may use any bread that suits your taste.
